As the Director of External Relations, Marie Thomas is responsible for managing the external relations team, which includes communication, marketing, advancement, alumni relations, and special events.
Thomas comes to Gunston from Washington College (WC), where she served as the Director of Creative Services since 2016. In that role, she produced and oversaw all of WC’s creative projects including graphic design, video, and photography. She developed creative concepts from start to finish and implemented strategic communication and marketing plans for undergraduate admissions and other college-wide initiatives.
Before her tenure at WC, Thomas served as the Communications & Art Director at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) in St. Michaels. In 2018, Thomas worked with CBMM to design a hard-cover 150-page book called Tradition, Speed and Grace: Chesapeake Bay Sailing Log Canoes by Judge John C. North II, which went on to win the Maryland Historical Society’s 2019 Brewington Book Prize.
She earned her B.A. and M.A. at the University of Baltimore where she was awarded the 2013 Ampersand Award that honored the graduate student whose work best exemplified the spirit of the program: exceptional achievement in both writing and design.
