In a weekend long competition, Gunston rower Alex Bent traveled to New Jersey on May 13 to compete in the Mid Atlantic Youth Rowing Championships. On Saturday, Alex raced in a time trial in order to qualify for the finals race happening the following day. “The race was intense,” Alex described, “watching the best of the mid Atlantic line up and gear up to go as fast as they possibly can is frankly scary.”

Alex finished 6th out of 13 athletes with a qualifying time of 8:02.7! After the race Alex added “I experienced something between fear and excitement, and bucket loads of adrenaline.”

Alex then moved on to compete in the finals race on Sunday. “(It was) much different than Saturday, in the way that everyone was quiet. It was much more intense. Watching the top 7 line up bow ball to bow ball down the course was something of a feeling I’ve never felt before.”
Congratulations Alex!
