Cross Country

9/4 at Gunston vs. ESIAC Schools
Our Boys and Girls Cross Country teams opened their season strong, both taking 2nd place in their first home meet! Final Results:

  • Girls: Worcester Prep 1st place (36), Gunston 2nd place (42) Phoebe Fritz ‘28 placed 2nd place overall. 
  • Boys: Worcester Prep 1st place, (48) Gunston 2nd place (49) (but unofficial since out of conference for Gunston.) Brody Schulz ‘29 placed 7th place overall.

Varsity Girls Field Hockey

8/28 vs. Indian Creek (Season Opener)
Gunston opened the season with an 8–0 win over Indian Creek. Mary Gordon ’29 scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Kent ’26. McDermott ’28 added a second-quarter goal before the Herons broke out with four in the third: Gerstmyer ’28 (assisted by Zottarelli ’27), Shepherd ’27, and two unassisted goals from Kent. In the fourth quarter, Shepherd and Jemima Shanks ’26 each scored, both assisted by Kent. The defense held Indian Creek scoreless, and Zottarelli earned Harold the Heron for her stick work and ability to create scoring chances.

NFHCA Watchlist
Congratulations to Genevieve Baughman '26, Layla Kent '26, Gabi Shepherd '27, and Izzy Labrador '28 for being named to the 2025 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Watchlist. The NFHCA Watchlist represents top collegiate and high school student-athletes who are early contenders for this year’s NFHCA All-Region and All-American teams. This list is intended to showcase those field hockey student-athletes with the strongest potential for consideration to the current year’s NFHCA All-Region and All-American teams. Congratulations!

9/3 vs. Severn School
Herons fall to IAAM B-Conference competitors, Severn School Admirals, 0–4. Despite the score, it was a highly competitive match, and our athletes showed grit and determination throughout the game.

Varsity Girls Soccer

8/26 vs. Beth Tfiloh (Scrimmage)
Gunston defeated Beth Tfiloh 4–1 in a home scrimmage on Temple Field (Soccer Island 21617). Goalkeeper Hannah Mae Conner ’26 recorded 8 saves, earning Player of the Match and the game ball. Abby Philippon ’27 scored two goals, while Brynn Roberts ’27 and Ellie Roberts ’28 each added one. Philippon earned the Tony Chocolonely Bar, and Ellie Roberts received the Henry Heron Award for her all-around play. Additional strong performances came from Reagan Johnson ’27 (center back), Teagan Derby ’28 (midfielder), and Brynn Roberts ’27 (winger).

8/28 at Key School
Key defeated Gunston, 2–1. Ellie Roberts ’28 scored Gunston’s goal and earned Player of the Match and the Tony Chocolonely Bar. Halle Harper ’29 received the Henry Heron Award.

9/4 at Salisbury Christian
Gunston defeated Salisbury Christian 6–0 on the road. Halle Harper ’29 got the Herons rolling with two first-half goals, giving the team a 2–0 lead at halftime. After the break, Ellie Roberts ’28 scored twice in quick succession, while Olivia Blusk ’27 and Abby Philippon ’27 each added one. Philippon and Addi Temple ’28 also notched key assists. The Herons outshot the Jaguars 23–2, with goalkeeper Hannah Mae Conner ’26 making 2 saves to secure the shutout. Postgame honors went to Harper (Tony Chocolonely Bar), Temple (Henry Heron Award), and Blusk (Player of the Match).

Spring Sports Awards 2026 The Gunston School

The Gunston community gathered in the Field House recently to celebrate a spring 2026 season defined by record-breaking participation, championship titles, and a surge in school spirit!

ESIAC Pickleball Champions 2026

It was a historic week for Gunston Athletics as Varsity Pickleball and Girls Tennis both claimed ESIAC Championship titles, while Girls Lacrosse reached their first conference final in 15 years. From dominant performances on the water by our sailors and rowers to gritty wins on the court, our student-athletes continue to set new standards for excellence and sportsmanship.

Maryland High School Rowing Championship Gold 2026

The crew team earned an impressive second-place overall finish at the Maryland State Rowing Championships, while the varsity girls tennis and lacrosse teams both secured dominant Senior Day victories. From the sailing team’s runner-up finish in Baltimore to the record-breaking 5:26.90 regatta time set by the boys varsity four, Heron athletes are on a roll!
