The Lady Herons secured a narrow 35-34 victory over Worcester Prep, with Layla Kent leading the way, scoring 16 points and recording 6 steals. Emma Walker handled the defensive pressure, contributing 6 points and 3 assists. Olivia Arthur made a strong return after a week off, adding 8 points and 6 rebounds. Kate Zottarelli, Mauriana Wichlinski, and Lilly McDonald also contributed to the scoring effort. Victoria MacGlashan and Tori Nessly anchored the defense, helping secure the win.

Boys’ Varsity Basketball

The Gunston varsity boys basketball team kicked off their 2024-2025 season on a high note, securing a 53-38 victory against the Eastern Shore Mavericks last night. The Herons showcased a balanced offense and solid defense, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting season. Senior Zach Steinberg played a key role in the win, contributing 13 points with sharp shooting and strong leadership on the court. Meanwhile, junior Amir Williams led the team with an impressive 16 points, consistently finding ways to break through the Mavericks' defense. Gunston’s defense held strong throughout the game, limiting the Mavericks’ scoring opportunities and creating turnovers that led to quick points in transition. 

Girls’ Swim

On Friday, December 6, the Gunston Girls’ Swim team traveled to Georgetown, Delaware, for a quad meet vs. Salisbury School, Delmarva Christian, and Cambridge-South Dorchester. Gunston came away with resounding victories over all three opponents! Highlight performances included 1st place finishes for the Medley Relay team of Emma Morris (back), Alivia Runz (breast), Kate Seybert (butterfly), and Peri Overton (freestyle) and the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Alivia, Kate, Peri, and Bridget Walden! Scoring individual 1st or 2nd place finishes were Bridget W.(1st) 200 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly, Isabel Gerstmyer (2nd)100 Backstroke, and Kate S. (2nd) 100 Butterfly. Congratulations are also in order for first-time Gunston swimmers Ella Baer, Sydney Cummings, Brynn and Ellie Roberts, and Paula Ruiz San Valentin! A big thanks to our veteran swimmers Lennox Franks, Annie Geng, and Louise Mulock, as well as our team managers Allison Davis, Natalie Edelen, and Lilly Showalter for their precise dedication to scoring a very stressful meet! 

Boys’ Swim

On Thursday, December 5, the Gunston Boys’ Swim Team traveled to Dundalk for a meet against Archbishop Curley High School. In the first meet of the season, and the first meet ever for nearly half of the team, the boys did not come away with the win, but there were several standout performances! Ben Clark and Preston Allen placed 1st and 2nd in the 500 Freestyle, Kaz Morris was 2nd in the 100 Breastroke, Preston was 2nd in the 100 Backstroke, Grant Edgar was 2nd in the 200 Freestyle and the relay team of Preston (backstroke), Ben (butterfly), Kaz (breastroke), and Tommy McGeady (freestyle) earned 2nd place in the 200 Medley Relay! Congrats to the boys on their first meet! Next up, the full boys and girls team hosts Queen Anne's County for the annual Corsica Cup on Friday, December 13.
