Senior R.P. Johnson signed his letter of intent to play golf at Washington College during a ceremony on May 14. A four-year varsity player, R.P. has been a standout on Gunston’s golf team since ninth grade, earning ESIAC All-Conference honors for three straight seasons and helping lead the team to multiple runner-up finishes. In his senior year, he placed third overall in the MIAA C Conference tournament and was named team MVP for the second time.

Gunston Golf Coach Evan Rutherford praised R.P.’s leadership and dedication: “Something about RP—he showed up before practice, stayed after, constantly asked questions, always wanted to learn more. He’s the perfect student-athlete. He knows what’s going on in the classroom and on the golf course. He did an outstanding job taking younger players under his wing. If I wasn’t available, the first person they turned to was RP. He was an extension of the coaching team, and I couldn’t be more thankful.”

Beyond school, R.P. has played in top-tier junior tours and national tournaments, including the Under Armour Nationals at PGA National in Florida. He began golfing at age eight, inspired by his father, C.O. Johnson, and has served as a mentor to younger players throughout his career.
