Spring Tennis Update
Spring Tennis Update
February 2, 2023
Dear Gunston Tennis Families,
The Spring Tennis season is approaching, and we’re looking forward to a great season. Given the spring season’s focus on interscholastic ESIAC competition, it is necessary for the team numbers to align appropriately with our 6-court Gunston Tennis Center capacity.
This year, we have nearly 40 students who have shown interest in participating in tennis! While this is great news overall, the capacity for both boys and girls tennis is approximately 15 students per team, with a typical total of 30 students overall. Therefore, students who wish to participate on the spring varsity interscholastic competitive tennis team will need to “make the team” via a preseason skills assessment program designed by the coaches.
Students whose skills do not meet the varsity tennis threshold this year will need to transition to a different sport (which might include pickleball) or fitness option but are encouraged to try again next season. For students in this situation, I pledge to work closely and individually with each student and family to find an engaging, healthy, and fun alternative. Please reach out to me if you have any questions.
Thank You,
Josh Breto
Director of Athletics & Transportation
On Thursday February 23, the Gunston Crew Team competed against Elizabeth Seton High School and Freedom Rowers Club in an indoor rowing competition at the Field House.
Coaches Yvonne Gazelle and Jen Matthews are pleased to announce the following students were recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) for their achievements.
On Wednesday, February 22, athletes, coaches, and parents gathered in the Field House to celebrate the many accomplishments of Gunston’s student athletes this past winter.
Competing in 20 events against five other ESIAC schools, including Delmarva Christian (48), Worcester Prep (141), Salisbury School (86) and Saints Peter & Paul (52), Gunston’s Boys team finished in first place with a score of 206.
Gunston's first team won two out of their three matches and emerged as the tournament's winner. The tournament provided Gunston players with an opportunity to showcase their skills in a Futsal competition.
