As you may have heard, the State of Maryland has ordered all public schools closed until March 30th, and the Association of Independent Maryland and DC schools has recommended that member schools follow this directive. Therefore, let me formally confirm that Gunston’s physical campus will be closed to all student activity until at least the 30th. Gunston will begin a period of remote instruction starting on Monday, March 23rd.
We have created an informational landing page with the latest Gunston announcements and a list of curated COVID-19 resources, articles, and tips to talk to your children.
COVID-19 continues to accelerate as a public health challenge, and this week the World Health Organization declared it a global pandemic. At this point, I have determined that Gunston needs to aggressively prepare for a lengthy possible period of school closure. Therefore, Gunston’s campus will be closed through the entirety of next week in order to provide the faculty and leadership team with sufficient time to finalize our preparation for the delivery of remote instruction, and to test these capacities.
Given the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak and its potential to interrupt the normal flow of the academic year, Gunston will be extending our Spring Break by an extra day in order to provide Gunston's faculty and leadership team a professional planning day on Tuesday, March 17th.
