The first-ever Back to Gunston Road Alumni Weekend welcomed alumni from 1975 all the way through 2022. A large group from the Class of 1992 returned to campus to celebrate their 30th reunion, many visiting for the first time since graduation. The Friday evening gathering saw many tears of joy in particular where each reunion year was presented with a memento from their graduating year at Gunston. This is the first of several alumni events this year, and it was a great kickoff to our annual event.
This year’s activities included a “Nerd Squad” gathering for Trivia with Mr. Lewis in which Andrew Amygdalos ’20 showed everyone that he’s still the reigning human encyclopedia, a Mocktail Mixology lesson with Ms. Grantham complete with a special Gunston Alumni flask, a Make-It-and-Take-It Oyster Shell decorating session with Dr. Asprion, Rock-et with Dr. Wilson where participants built a rocket and set them off in Temple Field, as well personal tours of campus with Mrs. Grabis.
Green vs. White challenges included Chopsticks, Pickelball and Trivia, where the White Team dominated the court and trivia while the Green Team cleaned up at the Chopsticks competition. During the day’s activities, attendees enjoyed lunch fromCrunchStacks Food Truck, drinks from the Bull & Goat Brewery provided by Traveling Spirits Mobile Bar, and sweet treats from Rita’s, Kent Island and Emily’s Produce
“As I come back to Gunston,” said Hunter Mansfield ’20, “come back to Maryland, I really am just thinking about the time that I spent here and how unique of a place it is. Just to be able to be here, on the water, [and] just the sense of community that’s here.”
Upcoming Alumni events include the Young Alumni Gathering on January 4th, with another event planned for late May with more information to be announced soon about both events.
