Gunston Players to Present ‘Romeo & Juliet,’ with a Twist

by Kelby Booth '23

Led by new performing arts chair Dr. Asprion, the Gunston Players are recruiting students and preparing for “The Misadventures of Romeo and Juliet,” a light hearted comedy filled with iconic characters.

Dr. Asprion and his theatre class are leading the production of “The Misadventures and Romeo and Juliet,” scheduled for Spring 2022. In a shift from the recent theme of “mystery and intrigue” that the last few plays have centered around (“Clue,” “Hitchcock”), this production includes light hearted comedy. The play’s plot follows the story of a dysfunctional rehearsal of Romeo and Juliet in which many familiar characters intrude on the production, creating complete chaos., including (but not limited to), Hamlet, “Blatman” (Batman), and more. The production is scheduled for 40 minutes to an hour long with no set changes.

“There is a place for everyone!” said Dr. Asprion, “In addition to actors and actresses, we need  crew members to control lights, music, and all other technical aspects of the play.” Roles will range from iconic television and movie characters, to Romeo and Juliet themselves, and even some improv characters as well. The audition date is pending, so keep an eye out for an announcement soon!

A flexible rehearsal schedule will start during the winter and will take place after school in the library, focusing on specific scenes to ensure everyone is comfortable with their role by curtain time in February. Contact Dr. Asprion for details at rasprion@gunston.org
