College Athletic Recruitment Night Overview: What You Missed

College Athletic Recruitment Night Overview: What You Missed

Gunston's College Guidance and Athletics Department teamed up to host a College Athletics Night this week featuring special guests from the college side of the desk which included Salisbury University's Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation, Dr. Gerry DiBartolo, Associate Athletic Director and Head Women's Field Hockey Coach,  Dr. Dawn Chamberlin, and Aquatics Director and Head Swimming Coach, Mr. Nate Parsley. This was a very dynamic and informative experience for those in attendance as this veteran panel of experts walked us and our student athletes and families through the college athletics recruitment process—as well as what life is like for college student-athletes once they begin their journey on a college campus.

Topics included the recruitment process and timeline, communication with coaches, campus visits, balancing academics and athletics, in season and off season commitments, as well as real talk about the benefits and challenges associated with competing at the various NCAA levels of play.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Over the past two years Gunston has had more than 10% of its senior class go on to play their sport in college!
  • Graduating that number of college-bound athletes is competitive with the top Athletic Programs in the state of Maryland.
  • This year's senior class already has 7 student-athletes committed to college athletic programs in NCAA Division I, II, and III levels of play.

Gunston student-athletes interested in continuing to compete at the next level in college should communicate their interests to their coaches and our College Guidance Team as they are here to offer support and direction through the athletic recruitment process. The journey of exploring options can begin as early as 9th grade or as late as a student's senior year, but it is beneficial to begin the process as soon as possible.
