CWS6 students spent 3 days in the field on Smith Island, Virginia with Chesapeake Bay Foundation learning about the ecology, history and culture of the Chesapeake Bay! CBF staff and Ms. S led a climate science lesson and throughout the trip, students learned how each element of their trip (bay science, smith island history and culture) has or is impacted by climate change.
CWS6 students then came home for a brief 20 hours to make it to the Homecoming dance before leaving for Wachapreague, Virginia to work with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS). Students explored both the bayside and seaside, dredging, trawling and seining. They explored barrier islands, examined and identified critters in the wet lab, and learned about maritime forest and marsh ecology. What an unforgettable experience!
During the past eight days, students also had four study halls for their math and Spanish courses, and even had a couple virtual and math meetings via zoom! Thanks to out to Mrs. Crandall and Mr. Cam Angarita for helping out our students while they are in the field.
