The Gunston School has secured a new full sailing fleet of 18 boats for the 2020-21 sailing season. After an extensive search, Gunston Sailing located a suitable replacement fleet from Harvard University. Under the guidance of Head Sailing Coach Tom Chafey and Waterfront Director Carter Law, the boats made the trek from Cambridge, MA to Centreville, MD over the course of two days this week.
This expansion of the fleet will not only provide our sailors with faster, lighter equipment, but this will also make Gunston an eligible race site for varsity MDISA regattas.
“We're very excited to have this new fleet for the upcoming sailing season,” Carter Law said. “Securing this fleet from a reputable sailing program, like Harvard, took a lot of looking, but Coach Chafey really found a diamond in the rough.”
Gunston's previous fleet was sold to the Chesapeake Experience in Baltimore, MD. This organization emphasizes getting everyone on the water and hosts many regattas, some of which, Gunston sailors will be competing.
