Blake Algier is headed to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) this fall. Known for his curiosity and technical focus, Blake’s time at Gunston was marked by a deep dive into the sciences. He was a constant presence in the Science & Engineering, Technology, and Astronomy (STARS) clubs, while also honing his financial acumen in the Business and Investment Club.

Blake’s engineering talents were on full display during the 2025 American Rocketry Challenge, where he was a key member of "Team Short Rocket," a group dedicated to innovative design and testing. He also played a vital role in the historic success of the Gunston Gearios robotics team. As part of the only team from the Eastern Shore to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge, Blake helped the Gearios secure the "Think Award" for their meticulous engineering portfolio and the "Judges’ Choice Award" at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory for their unique team dynamics and effort.

On the athletic front, Blake explored crew, basketball, and cross country, however he truly found his stride in the water and on the triathlon course. A standout moment in his swimming career came in late 2025, when he helped power the 400-yard freestyle relay team to a first-place finish.

Blake’s well-rounded background and technical skills earned him acceptances to several notable institutions, including St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Widener University, and Towson University. We are excited to see the impact he will make at UMBC as he continues to explore his passions for innovation and discovery. Blake joins the ranks of Gunston alumni alongside sister Madilyn ’23.
