On Saturday, November 8, Gunston's Academic Team traveled to Johns Hopkins University for their second tournament of the year. In an exceptionally strong field, the team finished 12th overall (3rd among qualified smaller schools) with AJ Friedrich ’27 leading the way with 415 points—the second straight tournament where he broke the 400-point mark. He was joined by Eamon Schopfer ’26, whose literary knowledge was essential during bonus rounds. The team was rounded out by the team's “Super Frosh,” four new 9th graders whose 390 total points was impressive for a group of first year players. The 9th graders were led by Emma Faff's 200 points, and strongly supported by Cole Euler, Baylor Knapp, and Kasiah Telligman.
Mr. Lewis, the team's coach shared, “This was a great tournament for us. We played tough throughout against some great teams, and our talented group of 9th graders clearly grew from their previous tournament experience last month. They're only going to get stronger and stronger. Meanwhile, AJ's extraordinary knowledge ensures that we're going to be able to compete against any team. We're excited for the final two tournaments before the Winter Holiday.”
