As they prepare for the NAQT National Championship tournament in Chicago in late April, Gunston's Academic Team finished 8th out of 21 teams this weekend at the very competitive East Brunswick (NJ) tournament. The team was powered by Senior Margaret Randolph, who led Gunston scorers with nearly 40 ppg, as well as Seniors Justin McCubbin, Lily Brantner, Louise Mulock, Eli Moore, and Sophomore AJ Friedrich. The tournament finished with the Herons winning their final playoff round game on the last question about the novel Catcher in the Rye. Mr. Lewis noted, "We've become an impressive team, and this was a tough regional tournament with a number of large public magnet schools. I'm so proud of these Seniors, most of whom have played more than a dozen all-day tournaments during their time at Gunston."
