The 2023 National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) in St. Louis, Mo. was attended by more than 8,000 students and teachers. Gunston was well represented by Alix Allison '25, Kate Andrews '26, Ezra Lillie '25, Madi Lutz '24, Evelyn Russ '25, Annabelle Sinatra '24, Ms. Larrimore and Dr. Asprion. This conference is a multiracial, multicultural gathering of student leaders from eligible independent high schools across the U.S. and abroad. SDLC focuses on self-reflecting, forming allies, and building community. Led by a diverse team of trained adult and peer facilitators, participating students develop cross-cultural communication skills, design effective strategies for social justice practice through dialogue and the arts, and learn the foundations of allyship and networking principles.
This year's theme was: Bending the Arc Toward Justice: Radical Optimism, Transformational Joy, Resilience, and Brilliance.
