
Finishing 10th overall out of 30 teams, and as the top independent school in the tournament, Gunston’s Academic Team traveled to Centennial High School in Ellicott City for the team’s first competition of the year. With a strong group of Seniors who offered great balance across subjects, the team went 4-1 in the first round of competition, finishing 6–4 overall. Every single Gunston player scored over 200 points, with Senior Margaret Randolph leading the way with 340 points, becoming the 9th player in team history to score over 1,000 points. Meanwhile, Seniors Justin McCubbin scored 300 points, Lily Brantner scored 280, and first-time competitor Eli Moore had a strong showing, scoring 230.
“I’m incredibly proud of this team, and we’re going to have a great season,” shared Mr. Lewis, the team’s coach, “and many thanks to Mrs. Renee Brantner for helping to coach and transport students for this tournament.” On November 2nd, the team travels to BioTech High in New Jersey for their next tournament.
