Savannah Landon ’27 is making a meaningful impact in Queen Anne’s County by earning her Girl Scout Gold Award through a project that provides a much-needed sensory room at the Chesterwye Center in Grasonville, Maryland. The Chesterwye Center, a nonprofit organization that supports individuals with mental and physical disabilities, offers essential services such as transportation, day programming, job training, and residential care. Savannah, a dedicated Girl Scout and advocate, was inspired to take action after exploring programming options for her brother, who has autism. She quickly recognized the need for a calming space at the center to help individuals experiencing sensory overload—a challenge common for those with autism, ADHD, PTSD, and other conditions.
“I know how hard it can be when someone is overstimulated and needs help to calm down,” Savannah shared. “I wanted to create a space that would support them in those moments.”
To bring her vision to life, Savannah organized a successful spaghetti dinner fundraiser in the fall of 2024 and, through her dedication and hard work, completed the sensory room by the end of January 2025. Well done Savannah!
