Senior Benta Owino Named Odyssey Scholar at Elon University
Benta Owino '25 earned a full scholarship through Elon’s Odyssey Program

For senior Benta Owino, dance is more than an art form—it’s a defining part of who she is. This fall, she will bring that lifelong passion to Elon University as a dance performance and choreography major. This spring, Benta earned a full scholarship through Elon’s Odyssey Program, a highly selective leadership initiative for students from diverse backgrounds who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.

The program provides significant support—including academic mentoring, leadership development, community engagement, and funding for global study experiences. Benta was initially waitlisted in March, but in late May, she was thrilled to learn she had received a last-minute offer. “It’s a natural path for me,” Benta says. “I’m committed to continuing this passion throughout college, both in practice and performance.”

Her ambitions don’t stop at the stage. She also plans to pursue a second major in marketing, combining her creativity with strategy to share her love for dance through digital platforms and connect with broader audiences. Now officially part of the Odyssey Program, Benta is excited to join a vibrant community of scholars and leaders. “I’m truly excited to be part of such a supportive and inspiring community,” she says. “I look forward to growing as a leader and contributing to the program in meaningful ways.” Congratulations Benta!
