Gunston prides itself on providing students with a variety of clubs to choose from, but sometimes it can be hard to narrow down your choices. May I present to you, The Ultimate Guide to Gunston Clubs! First, let's start out with our four different days. You can only pick one club per day.

Some clubs don’t only meet on their designated day. For example Science and Engineering may also meet on weekends when building a robot or rocket. Many clubs travel to attend competitions, conferences, or to do other fun activities. The Mock Trial team competes at local courthouses to simulate a real trial and the Academic Team and Model UN attend competitions both locally and nationally. In fact, last year, the Academic Team went all the way to Chicago to compete in the National Small School Academic Quiz Tournament and Model UN went to Washington D.C. last year with plans to go to New York City this year.

Chess Club is planning to travel to local high schools to compete in chess tournaments — but don’t fret if you do not wish to compete, all levels of chess experience are welcome — and the Math Club takes part in an annual Math Competition hosted by Salisbury University.

Several clubs plan school-wide events, workshops, and represent the school in the wider community at conferences. Environmental Club plans Gunston’s Earth Day Celebration and the Student Diversity Leaders plan Global Awareness Day as well as attend and present at conferences. Mental Health Awareness plans Unity Day and various other initiatives throughout the year while G.I.V.E Club plans several fundraisers throughout the year to benefit local and national charities. G.S.A. brings together students from other schools for an annual picnic to build community and support.

How do you choose? Try out these helpful tips:

Are you competitive and adventurous? Try out Academic Team, Model UN, Mock Trial, or Chess Club.

Do you want to develop your leadership skills? Plan events or do something that will make a difference in the community? Try out Student Diversity Leaders, GSA, G.I.V.E., Environmental, or Mental Health Awareness Club.

Do you want to improve your academic or athletic skills? Or work with your hands solving complex problems? Try out Math Club, Science and Engineering, Technology, Business or Christian Athletes Club.
