The Advisory System

At the heart of Gunston’s caring, connected environment is our Advisory System. We combine our small school size and strong faculty-student rapport with frequent, open communication to ensure no student ever navigates their high school journey alone.

  • Three Meetings Weekly: Upon enrollment, every student is assigned an academic advisor with whom they meet three times a week.
  • Your Primary Campus Contact: The advisor supports the student's personal, social, and academic growth, serving as the central bridge between the student, their teachers, administrators, and parents.
  • Proactive Problem Solving: If a student experiences academic difficulty in any class, the subject teacher immediately communicates with the advisor to outline the nature of the challenge and a clear plan for improvement.
  • More Than an Advisor: Our faculty advisors frequently fill the roles of confidant, sounding board, and mentor, fostering a deep level of trust and security.

Daily Academic Support

The transition to a rigorous college preparatory high school schedule brings new responsibilities. To help students successfully balance high academic expectations, athletic competitions, and social commitments, Gunston builds dedicated, proactive support directly into every single school day.

  • Daily Homework Period: "Study halls" are integrated into the daily schedule, giving students a structured environment to complete assignments, prepare for tests, conduct research, write papers, or meet one-on-one with teachers for extra help.
  • Morning Tutorial: Every morning, students have access to a dedicated tutorial session with their classroom teachers. Students can proactively elect to attend to review complex material or prepare for upcoming assessments.
  • Early Intervention: Teachers may also assign a student to morning tutorial if they notice a drop in performance, providing immediate, built-in support before a student falls behind.
