Leadership Institute
At Gunston, we believe that leadership is a skill that can be learned, developed, and practiced by every single person.
The annual Gunston Leadership Institute serves as the launching pad for our school year, bringing together returning student leaders to collaborate, build essential capabilities, and welcome incoming students into our dynamic community. Running simultaneously with our new student orientation, the Leadership Institute empowers student government officers, club leaders, and athletic captains to step forward as peer mentors, culture-setters, and role models.

Our intensive training curriculum goes beyond theory, focusing on practical application and the human-centric skills required to lead in a globalized society.

Practical Leadership Training: Student leaders gather to analyze distinct leadership styles, set organizational goals, and study effective group facilitation methods.
- Peer-to-Peer Orientation: Participants take an active role in welcoming incoming 9th graders and transferring upperclass students. They lead campus tours and guide peer-to-peer breakout discussions.
- Core Value Facilitation: Student leaders host specialized training sessions for their peers on critical community aspects, including technology fluency, sustainability, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Cultivating Community Vibe: By organizing collaborative team-building activities, our upperclass students actively establish an inclusive environment where every student feels respected and valued from day one.
