What is Gunston's profile and class size?

• Grades: 9–12, coed.
• Class Size: Dynamic environment with an average of 10–12 students per class.
• The Ideal Student: Motivated individuals capable of thriving in a demanding, college-preparatory environment.

What academic support systems are in place?

• Daily Tutorial: A built-in, 30-minute morning session with classroom teachers for extra help, test prep, or early intervention.
• Individual Tutoring: Tailored, one-on-one assistance to develop independent study skills, coordinated directly with teachers and advisors.
• Advisor System: Every student is paired with a faculty advisor (managing just 8–10 advisees) who acts as a four-year mentor and a direct communication link for families.

What is the Dress Code?

At Gunston, our dress code is designed to reflect our mission: preparing students for college and their future lives as professionals. We focus on a clean, neat, and inclusive appearance that honors our community values.

• Tops: Gunston polos or button-down oxford shirts (white, off-white, or pale pastels).
• Layering: Solid knit sweaters, solid fleeces, or official Gunston sweatshirts/jackies (with your shirt collar showing).
• Bottoms: Chinos, dress slacks, or chino-style skirts in tan, navy blue, or olive green. 
• Shoes: Solid tan, brown, or black leather or suede shoes with rubber or leather soles.
• Seniors Only: Sweatshirts from colleges/universities where they have been accepted.

What are the application deadlines and notification dates?

Note: Tuition rates are updated annually each fall.

• Early Decision: Apply by January 6 (Decisions released mid-January).
• Regular Decision: Apply by February 6 (Decisions released late February).
• Rolling Admissions: Applications received after February 6 are reviewed as space permits.

Will Gunston tell me if pieces of my application are missing?

Yes, the Admissions Office will remain in close contact with you throughout the process. You can also log into TGSnet at any time to view your real-time application checklist.

Are standardized tests required?

No. Standardized tests (like the SSAT or ISEE) are not required for admission, though you are welcome to submit your scores if you choose.

Can a student transfer mid-year or enter as a senior?

• Mid-year transfers: Yes, provided space is available and the applicant meets admission criteria.
• Senior-year entry: Generally no, unless transferring from another independent school or relocating to the area with compatible course credits.

How do I visit, shadow, or request info?

Visitor Tip:

Prospective students should dress in business-casual attire for their shadow day and interview, matching our daily student dress code.

What is the cost of tuition and attendance?

• Base Tuition (2026-2027): $31,950 (includes lunch).
• Estimated Fees: Books ($400–$600) and Bay Studies Fee ($450).
• Bus Transportation (Optional): Available across MD (Annapolis, Chestertown, Easton, Grasonville, Kent Island, Severna Park) and DE (Middletown). Annual rates vary depending on the route and frequency.

What is the cost of tuition and attendance?

How does Financial Aid work?

• Our Philosophy: We offer need-based financial aid to make a Gunston education accessible to families from a wide range of financial backgrounds.
• The Bottom Line: Applying for financial aid does not impact your child's chances of admission.
• How to Apply: Submit your financial aid application online via the Clarity Application by your corresponding admission deadline (Jan 6 or Feb 6).
• Changes & Continuity: Because family circumstances and school budgets evolve, financial aid is re-evaluated annually. If your financial situation is complex, please attach an explanatory letter to your Clarity form or contact David Henry directly.
