Affording Gunston

A Gunston education is a significant investment — and making it accessible to every motivated and talented student is a commitment our Board of Trustees takes seriously. Through generous financial aid and merit scholarships, we work to meet the needs of each family to the best of our ability, regardless of income and award approximately $2.1M each year to more than 70% of our families. 

Need-based Financial Aid

Gunston's financial aid awards are need-based grants that reduce tuition for recipients. Admission is never dependent on a family's ability to pay full tuition. Once a student is admitted, the Financial Aid Committee reviews each application and determines the grant amount — included with the acceptance letter. Awards are for one academic year and must be renewed annually, though Gunston is committed to providing aid for a student's entire time at school barring significant changes in financial circumstances.

Merit Scholarships

In addition to need-based aid, Gunston offers a limited number of merit scholarships each year recognizing exceptional students in one of four areas. Need-based aid and merit scholarships can be combined. New students applying to Gunston are eligible.

To apply:

1. Select one merit category
2. Complete the Merit Scholarship Application by your admission deadline
3. Have a Merit Recommendation Form submitted by a non-parent adult with direct experience in your chosen category

Deadlines mirror the admission deadlines: January 5 for Early Decision, February 5 for Regular Decision, and concurrent with the application for Rolling Admission.

Renewal: Awards are reviewed each semester based on continued meaningful engagement in the scholarship area and meeting community standards in others.
