Night of the Arts at The Gunston School 2023
Visual Arts
Visual and performing arts, actively engaging both mind and body in creative expression, are integral to the program at Gunston. As a student-centered school, we embrace the notion of the well-rounded individual and encourage each member of the community to pursue his or her creative interests with zeal. While every student’s schedule includes at least one visual art or music course each year, those with an identified passion are assisted in selecting multiple electives in the areas that best complement their individual interests and strengths.
The close attention of the faculty plays an essential role in helping to guide each student’s creative voice. Teachers at Gunston are invested in the success of their students and go out of their way to establish meaningful connections with each apprentice. This fosters an ability to coach young artists by directing them to just the right genre, the right aria, the right monologue, to fully cultivate their talents and carry them to the next level in their expressive quest. Because of the personalized program and the expert support of their faculty mentors, graduates leave Gunston with a firm understanding of their own abilities, and many alumni go on to study in the fields of art, design, music, and theater.
The broad array of student talent is recognized and genuinely celebrated by each member of the community. Sophisticated student artwork adorns the hallways of the academic buildings and regularly earns high praise in regional competitions. Thespians and techies join forces each winter to form The Gunston Players, a theatrical troupe that performs for appreciative packed audiences.
