Gunston Names Adam Hock ’03 and Cole Meyerhoff ’11 to Athletic Hall of Fame

The Gunston School is proud to announce the induction of Adam Hock ’03 and Cole Meyerhoff ’11 into the Athletic Hall of Fame. This prestigious honor recognizes alumni who have demonstrated exceptional athletic ability, leadership, and a commitment to the values of the Gunston community. Both inductees will be celebrated for their multi-sport contributions and their lasting impact on the Heron athletic legacy.

Adam Hock, a member of the Class of 2003, was a transformative force during his tenure at Gunston. While a standout leader on the soccer pitch—serving as Varsity Captain and earning All-Mid-Shore Honorable Mention honors—Hock’s impact on the lacrosse program was historic. A two-time captain, Hock led the Herons to championships in both the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) and the Mid-Atlantic Independent Lacrosse League (MILL) in 2003. His senior season remains one of the most decorated in school history, earning him the title of ESIAC Player of the Year. Hock’s name remains a fixture in the Gunston record books, where he currently sits tied for first all-time in both single-season assists (36) and career assists (65), and ranks tenth all-time in total career points with 113.

“As far as Adam is concerned, he was a tank. The only thing he didn’t want to do was leave the field. We all know those kids who will work hard in the classroom to get to a field. That was Adam. Looking back in time, I often saw him winded on the field. It didn’t matter. I had a heck of a time trying to get him to take a break on the sideline and catch his breath. He was an incredible athlete and fierce competitor. The truly neat thing about Adam was that, while he was a fierce competitor, he was also a great teammate and mentor to younger players. As a captain, he led by example and let his passion for soccer and lacrosse pour out of him. His teammates looked up to him; they tried to match his energy and commitment, and they responded to his leadership,” said Marc Buckley, P’20’26 who served as Gunston’s Lacrosse Coach and Director of Admissions at the time.

Cole Meyerhoff, a member of the Class of 2011, represents the epitome of the versatile scholar-athlete. During his career at Gunston, Meyerhoff competed in five different sports: soccer, lacrosse, basketball, swimming, and sailing. He served as Varsity Soccer Captain and Sailing Captain, while earning the ESIAC Sportsmanship Award for his conduct on the lacrosse field—a testament to his character and leadership. Meyerhoff’s dedication led him to St. Mary’s College of Maryland, where he was a four-year walk-on defenseman for the lacrosse team. At the collegiate level, he was named a team captain and was a multi-year member of the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) All-Academic Team, proving that leadership and academic rigor go hand-in-hand.

“Cole is a graduate whose athletic journey reflects athletic prowess, commitment, leadership, and character,” explained Assistant Head of School Christie Grabis. “Cole was part of championship-caliber teams. He was a captain. He was an award recipient. More than his accomplishments, Cole consistently demonstrated the qualities that define our program—showing up with purpose, competing with integrity, and elevating those around him through his example. He represented his teams, his coaches, and our school with quiet confidence and genuine respect.”
