The Baseline Rule

Gunston generally follows Queen Anne’s County Public Schools for delays, closings, and early dismissals. However, because our buses travel across regional routes, Gunston reserves the right to adjust schedules independently at our discretion.

• Two-Hour Weather Delays: Campus opens and classes begin at 10:00 AM.
• Delayed Bus Pickup Times: Morning bus pickups run 2 hours later than your standard daily schedule. You can find the detailed schedule for each location on the Resources Board on TGSNet.
• Regional & County Delays: If the specific county where you reside is delayed, your student begins school at 10:00 AM, regardless of Queen Anne's County status.
• Parent Discretion Policy: Parents always maintain final discretion regarding travel safety. If you determine road conditions in your immediate area are unsafe for your student to travel, notify the office; the absence will be fully excused.
• Where Alerts Are Posted: Weather decisions and operational changes are broadcast via text and email and posted on the Gunston website homepage, and listed on WBAL-TV.

• Attendance is taken each morning at the start of advisory or morning meeting – regardless of an individual’s academic schedule they must attend this opening period each day.
• Students are to remain on campus and may not sign out for lunch or otherwise depart campus until their final obligation of the day is completed (for most students, this will be their Athletics and Fitness activity, wrapping up at 4:30).
• If a doctor’s appointment or other approved need necessitates late arrival or early departure, students must sign in/out at the main office, where we will check for parent confirmation.

Student Dress Code Quick-Guide

Gunston’s dress code is designed to maintain an environment focused on learning while allowing students comfort and individual expression.

• Shirts: Long- or short-sleeve, button-down oxford, white, off-white, or pale pastel colors or Gunston Polos (multiple colors).
• Slacks: Solid colored dress slacks or chinos without cargo pockets in tan, navy blue, or olive green. Full length, worn at waist with dressy-style belt if pants have belt loops.
• Skirts: Chino style skirts in tan, navy blue, or olive green, straight hem, mid-thigh or longer. Solid-color tights are optional (no footless leggings).
• Shoes: Suede/leather shoes in solid tan, brown, or black (no canvas shoes). Must fully cover toes and heel, and have a rubber/leather sole. No athletic shoes, clogs, Uggs, bedroom slippers, or heels over 1.5 inches. No boots, except in inclement weather.
• Items Worn Over Dress Code Shirts: Solid-colored knit sweaters or solid-colored fleeces of any color with shirt collar visible. Students may not wear sweatshirts except Gunston sweatshirts. Gunston jackets, sport coats or blue blazers are always acceptable. Seniors may wear sweatshirts of schools to which they have been accepted. Long-or short-sleeve T-shirts, flannel, or other shirts may not be worn as over garments.
