Congratulations to Ashley Escobar ’22, who was recently awarded Washington & Lee’s Johnson Scholarship, an honor given to only 10% of each entering class. Escobar competed with around 200 other finalists in the Johnson Weekend Competition which consisted of student tours, sitting in on a class, and individual interviews by a panel composed of professors, admissions officers and current Johnson Scholars.
“Although I spent a lot of time preparing for the interview, I was pleasantly surprised by how welcoming and relaxed the interview setting was,” recalled Escobar. “I am looking to double major in accounting and in some humanities area, whether that be Latin American studies or journalism. Although I am not sure what career path I want to take after college, I hope to work in some sort of intersection between my two majors.”
W&L's Johnson Scholarship Program selects students on the basis of academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and their potential to contribute to the intellectual and civic life of the W&L campus and of the world at large in years to come.
