Chess Club at Gunston

At Gunston, students are at the center of every program. We view leadership as a core competency that can be taught, practiced, and refined.

Working closely with dedicated faculty mentors, our students have the unique opportunity to pilot, direct, and grow personally meaningful initiatives both on and off campus.
Our dynamic student life ecosystem thrives in a supportive environment where peers celebrate each other’s unique talents. To allow students to maximize their experiences, club periods are intentionally integrated directly into our weekly academic schedule.
 

Club & Organizations

Community Service

Community service is not only an expectation, it is a graduation requirement at Gunston. Students must individually complete 45 hours of community service to graduate. Gunston students often involve themselves in churches, scouting activities, artisan and craft fairs, summer camps, and afternoon programs for younger children. Students have been active in fundraising efforts of the American Cancer Society, annual canned food drives for the local community, and local and state programs promoting the health and rejuvenation of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Gunston is an active member of the Chester River Association's water quality monitoring program and is also a site for oyster spatting.
